First Aid Room Inspection & Supply
Monthly inspection and restocking procedure for a compliant, fully supplied industrial first aid room. Aligns with WorkSafeBC OHSR Part 3 and CSA Z1220-17.
To ensure the first aid room is clean, stocked, and fully operational at all times. Regular inspections prevent supply shortages, identify expired medical items, and verify that life‑saving equipment (AED, eyewash) is functional. This procedure also satisfies regulatory documentation requirements and demonstrates due diligence during a WorkSafeBC inspection.
This SOP applies to all industrial first aid rooms and designated first aid stations within [Company Name]. It covers the monthly inspection, cleaning, restocking, and documentation cycle. It does not cover emergency response procedures or advanced medical treatment — only the maintenance of the physical first aid room and its contents. Personnel performing this inspection must hold a valid WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate (or higher).
- Wear nitrile gloves and safety glasses when handling any medical supplies, used sharps containers, or cleaning agents. Avoid skin contact with biohazard waste.
- If the inspection requires opening locked cabinets or moving equipment, ensure no stored energy (e.g., hydraulic beds) can cause injury. All power‑assisted devices must be de‑energized per lockout/tagout.
- Do not mix cleaning chemicals. Use only hospital‑grade disinfectant wipes approved for the surfaces. Ventilate the room during and after cleaning.
- Assume all used bandages, sharps, and soiled items are infectious. Dispose immediately in designated biohazard containers. Never reach into a sharps container.
