AW46 hydraulic fluid is a premium anti-wear hydraulic oil formulated to ISO viscosity grade 46 (VG 46). It is designed for use in industrial hydraulic systems operating under moderate to high pressures (up to 3000 psi typical) and ambient temperatures ranging from -10°C to 60°C. Common applications include power units, injection molding machines, presses, CNC hydraulic systems, mobile equipment, and general industrial machinery in Canadian fabrication, woodworking, and machining shops. AW46 provides excellent thermal stability, oxidation resistance, and anti-wear protection for vane, piston, and gear pumps. It is typically dyed red or amber for leak detection and is compatible with most elastomers and seals used in hydraulic systems.

Machinability, Tooling & Feeds

AW46 is not a machining coolant or cutting fluid; it is a hydraulic medium. However, it may come into incidental contact with machined surfaces during system operation or maintenance. It has no direct machinability parameters. For hydraulic system maintenance, use clean, dry tools and containers. When filling or topping up, use a filter cart with 10-micron absolute filtration (or finer) to prevent particulate contamination. Recommended fill rate: 5-10 L/min to avoid aeration. System flushing should be performed with compatible flushing oil (e.g., ISO VG 32 or 46) at 1.5x normal flow rate for 2-4 hours. Do not mix with other viscosity grades or additive packages without consulting the manufacturer.

Storage, Handling & Racking Guidelines

  • Store AW46 hydraulic fluid indoors in a clean, dry, temperature-controlled environment (5-40°C).
  • Keep containers sealed to prevent moisture ingress and contamination.
  • Do not store near heat sources, open flames, or strong oxidizers.
  • For drums, store on their side with bungs at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions to prevent water accumulation on the top.
  • Use secondary containment (spill pallets) for drums and IBCs.
  • For bulk tanks, install a desiccant breather on the tank vent to control humidity.
  • Label all containers clearly with product name, viscosity grade, and date received.
  • Implement FIFO (first-in, first-out) rotation.
  • Do not stack drums more than two high unless using proper racking.
  • For IBC totes, ensure they are on level ground and not exposed to UV light for extended periods.
  • Spill response: use absorbent pads or granular absorbent; dispose of waste per local regulations.
