Slip Trip And Fall Prevention Floor Audit
A systematic walkthrough inspection of all industrial floors, walkways, and egress paths to identify slip, trip, and fall hazards. This SOP ensures compliance with WorkSafeBC and CSA Z432—reduce incident risk before it costs a shift.
The purpose of this SOP is to define a repeatable, objective floor audit process that proactively identifies slip, trip, and fall hazards before they cause injury or regulatory non-compliance. This procedure helps maintain clean, dry, unobstructed walking surfaces across all production, storage, and traffic areas.
This procedure applies to all indoor and outdoor pedestrian walkways, loading docks, stairwells, ramps, and production floors within the facility. It covers areas accessible to employees, contractors, and visitors. Audits are to be performed weekly, after any spill or maintenance event, and following shift changes that may introduce new trip hazards.
- Wear steel-toed boots with slip-resistant soles. Use guardrails and personal fall protection when inspecting elevated walkways or mezzanines.
- Pre-wet any identified spill immediately with absorbent. If liquid is corrosive, consult SDS and use appropriate neutralizer before audit continues.
- Lockout any equipment that could move or release fluids during inspection. Post temporary barriers for areas under repair.
- Minimum: safety glasses, high-vis vest, steel-toed boots. Gloves required when handling debris or sharp objects.
- Floor audit checklist (printable or SafeDesk digital form)
- Flashlight / headlamp for low-light areas
- Measuring tape (to document crack width, threshold heights)
- Camera or smartphone for photo documentation
- Marking chalk or safety cones for hazard isolation
- Moisture meter (optional, for wet spots)
