Proper tracking reduces edge damage, sprocket wear, and unplanned downtime. This PM log is intended for use on all Intralox Series 900, 1100, 1400, 2400, and 4000 belts used in industrial material handling, packaging, and processing lines.
To provide a standardized, repeatable procedure for adjusting the tracking of Intralox modular plastic conveyor belting and inspecting hinge pins for wear, deformation, or corrosion. Proper tracking ensures uniform belt load distribution, minimizes edge fray and sprocket wear, and prevents unscheduled line stoppages. Hinge pin inspection at defined intervals catches fatigue cracks before they propagate to belt failure. This PM log serves as the traceable record for maintenance history, supporting both reliability engineering and regulatory compliance (CSA Z432, ANSI B20.1).
This procedure applies to all Intralox Series 900, 1100, 1400, 2400, and 4000 modular plastic conveyor belts installed in material handling, packaging, food processing, and general industrial environments. It covers both manual and automated tension adjustment systems with threaded take-up assemblies. Excluded from scope: steel-reinforced belts, wire mesh belts, and belts with hydraulic tensioning systems. This PM log is intended for use by trained maintenance technicians, millwrights, and conveyor system specialists.
- Lockout/tagout the conveyor drive motor at the main disconnect. Verify zero energy state by attempting a local start after LOTO is applied. Do not rely solely on PLC interlocks.
- Wear cut-resistant gloves (ANSI A4 minimum), safety glasses with side shields, and steel-toed boots. Remove rings, watches, and loose jewellery. If working over the belt, use a lanyard for tools.
- Keep hands and loose clothing clear of all belt nip points, sprocket teeth, return idlers, and tensioning screws during adjustment. Never reach into the belt path while the drive is energized.
- Never exceed the manufacturer's maximum belt tension specification. Over-tensioning can cause sprocket tooth fracture, belt module cracking, or take-up bracket failure.
- If the conveyor is enclosed or located in a pit, follow confined space entry protocols including atmospheric testing, ventilation, and attendant.
- Intralox belt puller or strap wrench (belt width ≥ 24 in)
- Adjustable wrench set, 10–24 mm (or SAE equivalent)
- Torque wrench, 0–200 FT-LB (0–270 Nm), calibrated within 6 months
- Feeler gauge set, 0.001–0.060 in (0.025–1.5 mm)
- Dial indicator with magnetic base, or laser alignment tool (accuracy ±0.005 in)
- Pin removal tool (Intralox P/N 12345 or equivalent for belt series)
- Replacement hinge pins, matching belt series and material (acetal, polypropylene, or nylon)
- Anti-seize compound, food-grade if belt is in a food-handling zone (NSF H1)
- Clean lint-free rags, isopropyl alcohol (70 % or higher) for cleaning pin bores
- Manufacturer technical manual for specific Intralox belt series
- Digital camera or smartphone for documenting pre- and post-adjustment conditions

• Cracks at the pin head or body
• Corrosion pitting or discoloration
Replace any pin that shows >20 % wall thickness reduction. Clean each pin bore with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free rag before reinsertion. Apply a thin film of anti-seize to the pin shank.
