Drawer Box Assembly And Glue Squeeze Out Control
This procedure governs the assembly of 5-piece drawer boxes using PVA adhesive on a pneumatic clamp station. It includes controlled glue application, clamp timing, and immediate squeeze-out removal to achieve clean joints without secondary sanding.
To produce structurally sound drawer boxes with consistent glue line strength and minimal visible squeeze-out. Eliminates rework caused by starved joints, over‑gluing, or dried adhesive residues that impair finish quality. Standardizes clamp pressure and open time for all drawer sizes processed on the pneumatic station.
Applies to all 5-piece drawer box assemblies (front, back, two sides, and bottom panel) using Titebond II or equivalent type II PVA wood glue. Includes dovetail and rabbet joint styles. Excludes solid wood drawer boxes requiring dowel or biscuit joinery. This SOP is intended for the main production cell equipped with the Powermatic 18″ pneumatic clamp rack.
- Lockout/Tagout the pneumatic clamp station before cleaning or adjusting clamp heads. Verify zero pressure on gauge.
- Wear nitrile gloves when handling PVA glue to prevent skin contact. Safety glasses required during glue application to avoid splashes.
- Never exceed 3.0 bar supply pressure to the clamp station. Regulator must be set to 2.5 bar ± 0.2 bar per machine specification.
- Pneumatic clamp station (2.5 bar / 36 psi operating pressure)
- Titebond II Premium PVA glue (or equivalent Type II)
- Glue roller with 9 mm micro‑cellular nap
- White melamine glue roller tray
- Digital calipers (0.01 mm resolution) for gap inspection
- Lint‑free cotton rags (damp with water)
- Drawer box components: front, back, 2 side panels, bottom panel
- Drying rack with 20 mm spacing for air circulation
