To provide a standardized method for operators to quickly verify component alignment using a finger pull test. This procedure reduces variability in assembly, prevents rework, and supports 5S and lean manufacturing principles by making alignment checks consistent and measurable.
This SOP applies to all assembly, sub‑assembly, and fixture stations where a finger pull alignment check is part of the standard work instruction (SWI). It covers both manual and semi‑automated operations. All production operators, team leads, and quality inspectors are responsible for following this procedure.
- Lockout/Tagout: Before performing any alignment check on a station with moving parts, ensure all energy sources are isolated and locked out per your facility's LOTO procedure.
- PPE: Wear cut‑resistant gloves and safety glasses at all times. Components may have sharp edges or burrs. Avoid loose clothing that could snag.
- Ergonomics: Use proper lifting techniques when handling heavy or awkward parts. Do not force a pull — if resistance is unexpected, stop and investigate.
- Calibrated feeler gauge set (metric, 0.05–1.00 mm typical)
- Metric ruler or digital caliper
- Torque wrench (if adjustment requires fasteners)
- Alignment jig or fixture (as per product specification)
