Corner Board
Corner board is a rigid, right-angle packaging insert used to protect and reinforce the edges of boxes, pallets, and palletized loads. It is typically made from multi-ply paperboard, recycled paperboard, or corrugated paper, and is placed on vertical edges before strapping or stretch wrapping to distribute pressure, prevent corner crush, and stabilize loads during handling, storage, and transport.
On the shop floor, corner boards are set against the vertical edges of cartons or palletized product just before stretch wrap or strapping is applied. This keeps bands from cutting into packaging and helps maintain load squareness through handling. In finished-goods staging, corner boards support double stacking by adding compression resistance and reducing deformation during warehouse storage and truck loading. During raw material or WIP movement, they shield panels, window components, or cartons from forklift contact, clamp pressure, and rub damage. From an inventory standpoint, corner board is a consumable packaging SKU with size-specific part numbers by leg length and thickness. Reorder points are tied to outbound pallet volume, and usage is recorded at packing lines, shipping cells, or dispatch lanes. Paper grades require dry storage to prevent moisture damage, and kitting at the shipping cell ensures the correct size is applied before load building.
Is corner board the same as angle board, edge protector, or V-board?
Yes; these terms are used interchangeably in packaging supply catalogs for the same basic right-angle edge-protection product. It protects palletized loads from edge damage during strapping, stretch wrapping, handling, and transport.
What dimensions matter most when specifying corner board?
Leg length, caliper/thickness, and overall length determine edge coverage and compression performance. Suppliers offer size ranges from small carton protectors to long pallet-length boards, so these three dimensions must match the load profile and strap or wrap placement.
Why does corner board improve load stability?
The rigid right-angle column spreads vertical and strap loads over a larger surface area, which helps maintain pallet squareness and reduces localized compression damage. This prevents corner crush, reduces load shifting, and supports double stacking in storage and transport.
