Overview & Purpose

NFPA 80 requires all fire doors to be inspected and tested annually (and more often if conditions dictate) to verify that they operate properly and maintain the fire-resistance rating of the opening. This checklist covers critical components: labels, self‑closing devices, latching hardware, clearances, and gasketing. Use this log to document each inspection, identify deficiencies, and track corrective actions until the door is fully compliant.

Hazard Assessment Prerequisites
  • HAZARDFire door may close under spring tension – keep hands and body clear when testing self‑closing operation.
  • PPEWear safety glasses and cut‑resistant gloves when inspecting hinges, closers, and latching mechanisms.
  • LOCKOUTIdentify if the door is held open by an electromagnetic release – ensure release device is functional and tested per manufacturer instructions.
