This procedure covers the removal, inspection, sharpening, and reinstallation of stationary and rotating blades on granulators and shredders (both direct-drive and belt-driven rotor configurations). It also details the adjustment of knife-to-knife and knife-to-screen gaps using feeler gauges and dial indicators. This document does not cover motor replacement, bearing overhaul, or electrical troubleshooting.
- Lockout/Tagout: Isolate all energy sources (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic) and verify zero energy state with a qualified electrician before opening any guards or accessing the cutting chamber.
- Personal Protective Equipment: Wear cut‑resistant gloves (ANSI A6 or higher), safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and steel‑toed boots. Use a leather apron when handling sharp blades.
- Manual Handling: Use a hoist or two‑person lift for blade assemblies weighing more than 20 kg. Never hold blades by the cutting edge.
