Spray Booth Airflow And Filter Maintenance Log

Daily / shift-level record of spray booth airflow velocity, differential pressure across filters, and visual inspections. Ensures compliance with NFPA 33, OSHA 1910.107, and local fire codes. Use this log to document pass/fail status and trigger corrective actions before coating defects or safety incidents occur.

Overview & Purpose

This log captures critical airflow and filter integrity data for spray booths used in painting, coating, and finishing operations. Each row in the inspection matrix must be completed at the start of every shift or following booth idle periods exceeding 4 hours. Air velocity at the booth face shall be maintained at 100 ± 10 ft/min (0.51 ± 0.05 m/s) for crossdraft booths and 60–100 ft/min for downdraft designs. Filter differential pressure must not exceed the manufacturer’s recommended maximum (typically 2.0 in. w.g. for pre-filters and 1.5 in. w.g. for final HEPA filters). Exceedances trigger an immediate corrective action.

Equipment & Safety Prerequisites
  • LOTOLockout/tagout of spray booth exhaust fan before any filter change or cleaning operation. Verify zero energy state.
  • PPEWear appropriate PPE: safety glasses, nitrile gloves, and respirator if handling used filters. No open flames or spark-producing tools within 20 ft.
  • INSTRequired instruments: calibrated hot-wire anemometer (±3% accuracy), Magnehelic or digital manometer (range 0–5 in. w.g.), LED flashlight, and booth manufacturer’s manual.
