Purpose

Establish a consistent, time‑boxed daily meeting that aligns cross‑functional team members on production performance, quality issues, safety observations, and the day’s priorities. The stand‑up format keeps information flowing and prevents extended status meetings from consuming production time.

Scope

This procedure applies to all production shifts in any manufacturing cell or assembly line. It is mandatory for production leads, quality assurance, maintenance, materials, and safety representatives. The agenda is posted on the production board and may be adapted for cell‑level stand‑ups as long as the eight‑step sequence is preserved.

Safety Precautions
  • AREAHold the stand‑up in a clear area away from moving equipment. Ensure all participants stand on anti‑fatigue mats if near production lines.
  • HASKAny unresolved safety issue raised during the meeting must be logged in the hazard register and given an owner before the meeting adjourns.
  • ERGDo not lean on machines, pallet racks, or unstable structures during the stand‑up. Use designated meeting zones marked on the floor.
Required Tools & Materials
  • Whiteboard or digital production board (dimensions: minimum 1200×900 mm)
  • Stand‑up agenda template (laminated card or digital duplicate)
  • Dry‑erase markers (black, red, blue, green) – set of four
  • Timer or smartphone with countdown (15‑minute limit)
  • Action‑item log or clipboard with pen for scribe
  • Safety observation cards (if paper‑based system)

Procedure: Step-by-Step
1 Call the meeting to order on time – The designated facilitator announces the start at the scheduled time. All team members stand in a circle or at the production board. No chairs – keep the meeting under 15 minutes.
2 Review previous day’s production vs. target – The production lead reads the daily output numbers from the board. Compare actual units produced against the target. Note any significant gaps and flag for root cause discussion.
3 Quality concerns and non‑conformances – The quality representative reports any defects, rework lots, or customer complaints from the last 24 hours. Highlight top three issues and assign responsible persons for containment.
4 Safety observations and near misses – The safety coordinator shares any safety incidents, near misses, or ergonomic concerns. Remind team of high‑risk areas and any new safety protocols. Record action items on the board.
5 Today’s production targets and priorities – The production manager states the daily target quantity and any priority jobs. Clarify customer deadlines and shift schedule. Confirm staffing and material availability.
6 Assign tasks and owner commitment – Each team member verbally commits to their tasks for the day. The facilitator writes key assignments on the board next to each name. Ensure no one leaves without a clear deliverable.
7 Resource escalation and support needed – Ask if any team member needs maintenance, materials, engineering support, or extra hands. Escalate unresolved resource gaps to the shift supervisor immediately.
8 Closing and handoff – Facilitator summarises three key action items, announces the target for the day, and thanks the team. The board is updated with the new date and meeting notes logged in a shared system (e.g., ShopDocs library).
