Material Overview & Common Uses
5052-H32 is a non-heat-treatable aluminum-magnesium alloy (nominally 2.5% Mg, 0.25% Cr) supplied in a strain-hardened and stabilized temper (H32). It offers an excellent combination of moderate strength, outstanding corrosion resistance (especially in saltwater environments), and superior formability compared to 6061-T6. In Canadian fabrication shops, 5052-H32 is the go-to sheet for bending, deep drawing, and forming operations where tight radii and crack-free bends are required. Common applications include marine components (fuel tanks, hull panels, rub rails), architectural flashings, signage, food processing equipment, chemical storage tanks, and automotive body panels.
