Material Overview & Common Uses

5052-H32 is a non-heat-treatable aluminum-magnesium alloy (nominally 2.5% Mg, 0.25% Cr) supplied in a strain-hardened and stabilized temper (H32). It offers an excellent combination of moderate strength, outstanding corrosion resistance (especially in saltwater environments), and superior formability compared to 6061-T6. In Canadian fabrication shops, 5052-H32 is the go-to sheet for bending, deep drawing, and forming operations where tight radii and crack-free bends are required. Common applications include marine components (fuel tanks, hull panels, rub rails), architectural flashings, signage, food processing equipment, chemical storage tanks, and automotive body panels. It is readily weldable using standard MIG/TIG techniques and is compatible with most post-finishing processes (anodizing, painting, powder coating).
