Storage, Handling & Racking Guidelines

Store Red Oak in a climate-controlled environment at 40-50% RH and 18-22°C. Stack lumber on 2" x 4" stickers spaced 24" apart, aligned vertically to prevent sagging. Allow 1/2" air gap between stacks for circulation. Cover the top of the stack with 1/4" plywood or plastic sheeting to protect from dust and moisture, but leave sides open for airflow. Do not store directly on concrete floors; use 4x4 runners or pallets to elevate at least 4" off the ground. For long-term storage (>3 months), seal end grain with wax emulsion to prevent checking. Handle boards with clean gloves to avoid oil contamination. For racking, use cantilever racks with padded arms to prevent denting. Maximum stack height: 6 feet for 4/4 stock, 4 feet for 8/4 stock. Rotate inventory FIFO (first-in, first-out) to minimize age-related defects. For CNC machining, condition boards to shop temperature for 48 hours before processing.
