Pur Adhesive
PUR (polyurethane reactive) adhesive is a one-part reactive hot-melt used in woodworking and CNC manufacturing. It is heated and applied molten, gains initial hold as it cools, then achieves final structural strength through moisture-cure crosslinking over 24–48 hours, producing durable, moisture-resistant bonds.
In a typical millwork shop, PUR adhesive is loaded into a pre-melter or gluing unit on an edgebander or profile wrapper, where it is kept at operating temperature and dispensed onto panel edges or profiles. The process combines fast handling strength with high final bond strength, reducing line time while delivering structural bonds after full cure. PUR is commonly selected for cabinet parts, doors, and moisture-exposed components because it resists water, heat, chemicals, and temperature extremes. The shop must carefully control open time, temperature, and moisture exposure, as the adhesive cures by reacting with ambient humidity. Once cured, the bond is permanent and difficult to reverse. On automated CNC edging lines, PUR supports high throughput as a one-part system with no mixing, reducing operator error and ensuring repeatable application.
What makes PUR different from standard hot-melt glue?
Standard hot melt primarily gains strength through cooling, while PUR is a reactive hot melt that also cures chemically with moisture, achieving final structural properties beyond simple thermal set.
Why is PUR preferred for edge banding in millwork?
PUR provides strong, moisture-resistant, and heat-resistant bonds suitable for cabinetry and panel products, where edge durability and water resistance are critical for long-term performance.
What production advantage does PUR give on a CNC edge-banding line?
PUR supports rapid handling strength and high throughput while delivering a stronger final bond after cure, making it ideal for automated edgebanding and profile wrapping cells that require both speed and durability.
