CNC Router Limit Switch Cleaning and Test
Periodic cleaning and verification of all limit switches (home and over-travel) on CNC routers. Ensures accurate homing sequences, prevents false limit triggers, and reduces crash risk due to debris‑contaminated switch contacts.
To remove accumulated dust, coolant residue, and micro‑swarf from limit switch surfaces that can cause intermittent contact failure or false triggers. After cleaning, each switch is mechanically actuated and electrically verified to restore reliable machine homing and over‑travel protection, preventing costly spindle/router collisions.
This procedure applies to all three axes (X, Y, Z) of CNC routers under scheduled PM, including both mechanical plunger switches and photoelectric proximity switches. It does not cover linear encoder scale cleaning or motor brake adjustment. Perform quarterly (every 250 operating hours) or after any crash event involving limit switch actuation.
- Lockout/tagout main disconnect per facility procedure. Wait 5 minutes for servo drive capacitors to bleed down below 50 VDC.
- Wear safety glasses and cut‑resistant gloves when removing covers. Use antistatic wrist strap if handling switch connectors.
- Isopropyl alcohol is flammable. Keep away from sparks or active control cabinets. Allow 2 minutes evaporation before power‑on.
- Never insert tools into moving actuator paths. Manually move axes only with machine power off and axis brakes released per manual.
