Compressor Condensate Management System Test
Standard procedure for verifying the functional performance of automatic condensate drains, separators, and control logic on stationary industrial compressors.
The purpose of this SOP is to establish a standardized testing protocol for the condensate management system on industrial air compressors. Proper condensate removal prevents moisture accumulation in downstream piping, pneumatic tools, and processes, averting corrosion, freeze damage, and control system malfunctions.
This procedure applies to all rotary screw and reciprocating compressors in the facility equipped with automatic condensate drains (timer-based, level-sensing, or zero-loss). It covers the testing of solenoid valves, level sensors, drain intervals, and associated check valves. It does not cover manual drain valves or condensate treatment systems.
- Lockout/tagout compressor prime mover. Verify zero energy state. Depressurize the separator completely before accessing drains or fittings.
- Wear safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, and hearing protection. Condensate can be hot (>60°C) and may contain aerosolized oil.
- Do not discharge condensate directly to the floor. Collect in a suitable container for proper disposal or treatment per local environmental regulations.
