Industrial-grade Oriented Strand Board (OSB) is an engineered wood panel composed of cross-oriented layers of wood strands bonded with a moisture-resistant resin under heat and pressure. It is manufactured to meet Canadian CSA O437.1 standards and is widely used in residential and light commercial construction for structural sheathing (walls, roofs), subflooring, and as a substrate for siding and roofing. Its high strength-to-weight ratio, dimensional stability, and cost-effectiveness make it a preferred alternative to plywood in many applications. Quality control per CSA O437.1 requires sampling 1 panel per 1000 sheets for destructive testing (MOE, MOR, IB). Visual inspection of 100% of panels for surface defects. Use a moisture meter (pin-type) at 3 points per panel; average MC must be ≤ 10%.

Storage, Handling & Racking Guidelines

Store OSB panels flat on a level, dry surface, elevated at least 4" (100 mm) off the floor on sleepers or pallets to prevent moisture wicking. Stack height limited to 4 feet (1.2 m) to avoid crushing bottom panels. Cover with breathable tarps or polyethylene sheeting, ensuring ventilation to prevent condensation. Do not store in areas with relative humidity > 85% or temperature swings > 20°C (36°F) within 24 hours. For racking, use A-frame racks with a 10° tilt from vertical; support panels at 1/4 and 3/4 points to prevent sag. Maximum rack capacity: 2,000 lbs (907 kg) per linear foot. Handle with wide-belt slings or vacuum lifters; avoid edge impacts that cause delamination. For long-term storage (>30 days), use climate-controlled storage at 20-25°C (68-77°F) and 40-60% RH. Rotate stock FIFO; panels older than 6 months should be re-inspected for moisture and warp before use.
