This procedure ensures the programmable stops on beam saws are positioned accurately to within the machine’s specified tolerance (typically ±0.5 mm). Accurate stop positioning guarantees repeatable cut-off lengths, reduces scrap from mis-cut panels, minimizes rework, and prevents damage to the saw carriage or stop mechanism. Regular verification is essential for maintaining quality output and prolonging machine life.
This SOP applies to all beam saws equipped with manually or CNC-controlled programmable stops used in panel processing. Covered models include single‑line and double‑line push‑beam saws (e.g., Homag, Giben, SCM, Schelling, Altendorf). The procedure does not cover mechanical stop adjustments on non‑programmable saws or calibration of the saw blade itself. The procedure should be performed quarterly or whenever stop positioning errors are suspected.
- Lockout/tagout the machine: isolate both electrical supply and pneumatic pressure before accessing the stop assembly or making any manual adjustments.
- Keep hands and tools clear of moving stops; use slow jog or manual override during adjustment to avoid pinch points and crushing hazards.
- Wear safety glasses and steel‑toed boots. Hearing protection is required if the saw is operating or if nearby machinery is active.
