Overview & Purpose

The emergency standby diesel generator must be exercised weekly under no load (or per local code) to verify automatic starting, operating parameters, and fuel system integrity. This test meets NFPA 110 requirements for Level 1 systems. Any deviation from thresholds must be recorded in the defect log and escalated immediately.

Equipment & Safety Prerequisites
  • LOTOVerify generator main circuit breaker is OPEN and lockout/tagout is removed only after confirming no load is connected. Emergency stop button functional.
  • PPEHearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and arc‑flash rated clothing near battery terminals.
  • REQDigital multimeter, infrared thermometer, coolant hydrometer, oil dipstick, log sheet, and manufacturer manual.
