This log sheet is used by maintenance technicians to document the results of acoustic inspections performed on steam traps. Early detection of failed-open (blow-through) or failed-closed (blocked) traps reduces steam loss, prevents condensate backup, and optimizes system energy efficiency. This document aligns with ASME PTC 39-1 and typical plant reliability standards. Each row corresponds to a single trap; record all readings and mark pass/fail before signing off.
- Lockout/Tagout — Isolate steam supply to the trap manifold or unit before performing any physical contact, disassembly, or replacement. Verify zero energy state.
- PPE Required — Wear appropriate thermal-rated gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection when working near pressurized steam lines and performing acoustic tests.
- Acoustic Stethoscope / Ultrasonic Gun — Verify sensor calibration and battery charge before starting inspections. Ensure background noise levels are logged for reference.
