Purpose

To establish a repeatable inspection process that verifies staple patterns on back panels meet engineering specifications. Consistent staple placement prevents structural failures and reduces rework in final assembly.

Scope

This SOP applies to all back panels fabricated in the manufacturing area. It covers visual and dimensional checks of staple patterns after stapling operations and before final assembly. It does not cover pneumatic stapler maintenance or repair.

Safety Precautions
  • LOTOLock out and tag out any pneumatic stapler or power tool before inspecting the panel.
  • PPEWear safety glasses and cut‑resistant gloves when handling fabricated back panels to prevent cuts from sharp edges.
  • ERGOUse proper lifting techniques; panels over 25 kg must be lifted with mechanical assistance.
Required Tools & Materials
  • Staple pattern template (appropriate for panel size and fastener spec)
  • Calibrated measuring tape (±1 mm accuracy)
  • Inspection mirror with handle
  • LED flashlight
  • Quality inspection checklist / digital form

Procedure: Step-by-Step
1 Ensure the workstation is clear and the back panel is placed on a flat inspection surface with adequate lighting.
2 Using the staple pattern template, align it with the reference edge of the panel. Confirm the template matches the panel size and staple configuration.
3 Visually inspect each staple for proper seating (flush with surface) and spacing (no double‑strike or misaligned staples). Use the inspection mirror and flashlight to view hidden or angled areas.
4 Measure the distance from the panel edge to the first staple using the measuring tape. Verify this measurement matches the specification on the engineering drawing.
5 Count the total number of staples in the pattern and verify against the engineering drawing. Ensure no staples are missing and no extra staples are present.
6 Record all inspection results on the quality checklist. If any deviation is found (e.g., spacing > ±2 mm, missing staple), mark the panel for rework and notify the shift supervisor immediately.
